Generally, most small to medium sized businesses
will use Microsoft Office. Microsoft Access comes
as part of some of the Microsoft Office packages,
if not, it can be purchased separately. Access
is inexpensive and integrates exceptionally well
with other MS products via VBA (Visual Basic
for Applications). This allows data to be exported
effortlessly across the Office suite (e.g. Excel
and Word) allowing data exports to reports, graphs,
charts as well as producing standard letters,
documents, certificates, timetables etc etc.
For a small stand alone database solution used by one to ten users, Microsoft Access will be
perfectly acceptable to use. As the number of
users increase, or more importantly, network
traffic increases, then an effective solution
should use a 'back-end" database server
of some type. SQL SERVER (from Microsoft) is
generally what we recommend for the best 'back-end'
integration with Microsoft Access, providing
excellent processing power and security, but
all different types of database servers are available
catering for all types of business requirements.
In our experience an excellent solution is a
Microsoft Access 'front-end' application running
on an SQL SERVER database. But this is only an
example. If your business already employs other
technologies, or you would wish to use them,
we will be more that happy to provide a solution.
